Peyronie's Treatment

Peyronie's disease is the medical term for an abnormal curvature of the penis. While its exact causes are still not fully understood, it is characterized by the formation of fibrous tissue (also referred to as "plaques") that forms inside the internal cavity of the penis. Symptoms may appear slowly or sometimes overnight in cases of injuries to the penis. In severe cases, the hardened plaques reduce flexibility, which causes the penis to bend or arc during erections, making sexual intercourse difficult or painful. Erectile dysfunction sometimes accompanies these symptoms in the later stages of the disease. Peyronie's disease can occur in men of all ages, affecting about 1% of men in North America.

Many non-surgical therapies including high doses of vitamin E, anti-inflammatory drugs and oral application of para-aminobenzoate, have had varying results in treating Peyronie's disease. They may ease the discomfort, but often do not fix the curvature problem. Surgery can be very costly and the risk that the procedure will cause impotence makes it the very last resort for many patients.

Traction based extenders are the only proven non-surgical way to treat Peyronie’s disease. It serves as a brace, helping to straighten the penis and correct the curvature naturally without any of the risks posed by surgical procedures.
